HERMANUS. – The Riviera Hotel has now been taken over by its owners, Messrs. Odendaalsrust Gold, General Investment and Extensions Ltd. “The lease to the Don Finberg Hotel Group which has gone insolvent has been cancelled,” said Mr. G.B. Ashworth who arrived this week to manage the hotel. The Don Finberg Hotel group went insolvent recently. Its affairs are in the hands of Thibault Trust, Cape Town. It is estimated debts amounting to some R6 000 are owed Hermanus tradesmen by the group. Mr. Ashworth told The Times the hotel was taken back on March 1 from the lessee, the Finberg Hotel Group. “We are in no way associated with the Don Finberg Hotel Group. “We intend to keep the hotel going under the control of the owners of the property. There will be certain staff changes, but our service to the public will be all they could wish for.” Mr. Ashworth has been in hotel business for 12 years, six in the Cape, three in Rhodesia and three in Malawi. The previous owner of the Riviera, Mr. G. Lubner recently sold most of his interests in the hotel to the Odendaalsrust Group.
