Clash of interest over 12 morgen of land: Mr. C. J. Lubbe M.E.C., the man in charge of education in the Cape Province, will see two Hermanus groups shortly, both with opposing views. A two-man Hermanus High School delegation will see him this week to press its claim for a new R750 000 high school and hostel while the Town Council will also see him later to ask that the 12 morgen land set aside for the new school be transferred back to council to be developed as a township. The controversial piece of land lies to the north of Moffat Street. It was given to the Department of Education by the Council in 1964 as a site for a new high school. Shortage of public money has held up the project but now it has been placed on the “A” list of priorities by the Provincial Council.
The High School committee last week obtained the support of the School Board in its campaign for a school hostel and to have an early start on the high school itself. It claims the new school is now needed to provide further facilities not available at the present school and to allow the primary school to take over the present high school for itself.
