Wine producers of the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley collaborated on an initiative in honour of Mandela Day. In addition to each producer’s own pledge of 67 minutes to an organisation of their choice, the group put a collection of 67 bottles of sought-after wine together as a grand prize for the member of the public who accumulated the most R67 donations that will go towards these organisations and other worthy initiatives, a campaign that ran for two weeks. Just over R36 000 was raised for two schools in the valley, Pebbles and Hemel-en-Aarde Pre-school, as well as the education of young wine professionals in the area who need funding to further their studies in wine producing. Zelda la Grange, former secretary to the late Madiba, joined them at the Hemel-en-Aarde Pre-school to share more about the Mandela Day initiative and also do the honours of drawing the lucky winner. Chelsea Gibson walked away with the wonderful prize.
