B.E.S.L. CLUB AND MEMORIAL HALL: By supporting the Morning Market you will help towards the building of a club for the use of ex-servicemen and women, and a Memorial Hall suitable for plays, meetings and dances. £8,000 is needed to construct the Club House but by the end of the year, Mr. George Smith, Honorary Secretary of the Hermanus Branch of the B.E.S.L., hopes to have collected £2,000 of this sum. At present the B.E.S.L. is awaiting the final transfer of the land on which it will build. The proposed site is at the corner of Royal and Roberts Streets. I have seen the plans for this attractive building which were drawn without charge by the Cape Town architect, Mr. Brian Mansergh, who has already designed many lovely homes in Hermanus. From the outside it will resemble a comfortable dwelling house, with a high thatched-roof and very large plate windows. Dormer windows will add to the originality and charm of the exterior.
