After
seeing the difficult financial impact Covid-19 has had on many people, two cyclists
decided to do their part and help raise funds for those in need.
Ian Privett
and Mark Lawson decided to embark on a 30-day cycling adventure which they call
“The Whole Way Round”. The aim is to raise funds for people in the Overberg
that are in need.
The funds
generated will be used by the Grootbos Foundation Covid-19 relief programs. Lawson
says they aim to raise R100 000. People can sponsor Lawson and Privett for
each kilometer they cycle or each for each day of their cycle adventure.
Privett and
Lawson will be cycling across the Western Cape covering 6 000km over the
30 days which kicks off on Saturday 12 September at Grootbos just outside of
Gansbaai. The duo will then go through Hermanus and end their adventure at Fish
Hoek in Cape Town.
Lawson and Privett
have been preparing for this journey for the past three months. “During
lockdown we did a lot of indoor training and since the easing of the lockdown
we have spent more time out on the road.”
The duo will
be taking on the 30-day cycle challenge on their own with no backup vehicle.
“Depending on the weather and our bodies we will be taking breaks in between as
this is a big challenge,” says Lawson.
Privett
says this is an opportunity for them to give back to the community while doing
what they love. “I am looking forward to taking on this journey with a good
friend,” he concludes.
