A vehicle and abalone with an estimated street value of R400 000 were confiscated last week on the N2 near Grabouw. A provincial traffic officer was busy conducting patrols and pulled a vehicle travelling in the direction of Cape Town over. The driver of the vehicle reportedly refused to open the boot of the vehicle, and allegedly tried to bribe the traffic official. When this failed the man, believed to be in his 40s, fled the scene. The vehicle and the abalone were confiscated and a search was launched for the driver. The suspect appeared in the Grabouw Magistrate’s Court and was released on R20 000 bail.
