Law enforcement agencies from around the Overberg will do everything in their power to catch criminals during the festive season.

That is the message after Overstrand law enforcement officers discovered 4 204 abalone on Friday.

“Vigilant law enforcement officers spotted a suspicious-looking vehicle on the R43 near De Kelders following an intel-driven operation conducted by a multi-disciplinary team from Overstrand Municipality’s Task Team and Leap officers as well as the Monitoring and Surveillance Unit of DFFE,” Deputy Mayor and Mayco Member for Protection Services of Overstrand Municipality Lindile Ntsabo said. He said the incident occurred on Friday night.

“The vehicle was stopped, and 4 204 abalone was discovered. The yellow Ford Bantam bakkie and abalone were handed in to the police.”

In other joint operations across Greater Hermanus, various vehicle check points, random stop-and-search and execution of search warrants were conducted by the Flying Squad, Overstrand K-9, Task Team Units and Leap officers to consolidate law-enforcement visibility.
