Yona Yethu Artistic Production is passionate about using drama, music and poetry to convey important messages and create awareness of issues such as domestic and Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
And this is exactly what they will do when they take to the stage in the Moffat Hall in Mount Pleasant on 18 June to perform Voice Out, a play written by director Spiwo Mlanjana, urging victims of abuse and domestic violence to speak about their experiences.
Eric Begala explains that Yona Yethu Artistic Production is an NGO that was started in 2013 in Cape Town.
“When Yona Yethu came to Hermanus we joined forces with Spairo Art Foundation that is run by Spiwo Mlanjana,” said Begala. “We work mainly with kids from Grade 8 to 11, for this is the stage where they start facing challenges such as mixing with the wrong friends and experimenting.
“We want to thank Shell Garage in Hermanus, Mr Dominic and his team, Kãffi Krús at Arundel Snack Bar, Mr Nelis of Engen Garage, Total Garage in Onrus, Mrs Mcinjana from Overstrand Taxi Association, Mr Mgcotyela and Mr Onke, the senior management of Rola Ford, Fabio’s Ristorante, Buco at Gateway Centre, Eastbury Cottage, Overstrand Municipality, Bishop Transport and the FynArts Festival for their support and sponsorship.”
