With post offices closing across the country, it is good news that the Bredasdorp Post Office is still up and running.
“Since July 2023 the joint Business Rescue Practitioners (led by Juanito Damons and Anoosh Rooplal) of the SA Post Office have since placed their Plan on the SA Post Office on its website for perusal,” Executive Mayor of Cape Agulhas Paul Swart stated in a press release.
“It intends to restructure, modernise and improve on services.”
According to a SA Post Office spokesperson, although the company is in financial distress and under business rescue, it remains committed to rendering a postal service to all – traditional mail and government services.
With the re-opening of the Bredasdorp Post Office in mid 2023 (thanks to negotiations involving the regional Post Office, Capemail and Swart), the Area Office, Overberg has secured the transfer for a Branch Manager.
From 2 April Vivian Lyons from Pietermaritzburg will be the new branch manager.
The Bredasdorp Post Office currently lacks network facilities, which it acknowledges and plans to restore its network connectivity soonest.
“The matter has already been reported to IT and also escalated to the Business Rescue Practitioners for their consideration for approval,” Ashley Simons, Area Manager Cape Winelands and Overberg, said.
“The online facility will naturally enhance postal services, allowing for online transactions facilitated by card payments.”
To maintain a consistent mail street delivery service, the Area Office has implemented contingencies to support the postman, Colin Piek.
“Additional postmen will be brought in during days when street delivery volumes exceed the usual levels, such as monthly municipal bills,” Simons stated.
“I express my gratitude to the Office of Executive Mayor Paul Swart for its ongoing support and for understanding the post office’s transition, to enhance its postal services.
“I trust our working relationship will continue to be fruitful.”. The Bredasdorp Post Office trading hours are as follows: Monday, Tuesday: 08:00-17:00 Wednesday: 09:00-17:00 Thursday, Friday: 08:00-17:00 Saturday: 08:00-13:00.
(The post office will be closed on Saturdays mid-month)
