Three years ago Pierre and Pauli van Niekerk embraced a new chapter of their lives, settling in Hermanus . . .
Nestled in Vermont, the couple named their house “Die Blou Huis”. Their iconic blue “gate”, adorned with vibrant pink bougainvillea, has become a symbol of creativity, charm and the duo’s deep connection to their craft.
For Pierre and Pauli, Hermanus is more than just a scenic location; it’s a place where art and nature seamlessly intertwine. “We feel incredibly blessed to live in such a beautiful town,” said Pauli. The couple admires the community’s commitment to preserving both the town’s natural and cultural heritage. But what truly won their hearts is the warmth of the people.
A lifelong dedication to the arts defines Pierre and Pauli’s journey. As accomplished performers they gained national recognition when they became runners-up in the ATKV Crescendo competition. Their musical duets have since enchanted audiences worldwide, and they’ve found a wonderful platform for their talents at the Hermanus Kalfiefees. In 2024, their cabaret Moedermelk and the musical Skouspel, featuring Jannie Moolman and three local choirs, were among the festival’s top-selling events.
Their production company, Pierre and Pauli Productions, boasts a rich history of creating and performing across the country. “We have collaborated with renowned artists such as Snotkop and Laurika Rauch and spearheaded innovative projects, including the Pierre and Pauli Productions Choir Academy in the North West Province,” Pierre pointed out.
Pauli’s educational children’s programme, Poplap die Lappop, is another shining achievement. This initiative brings joy and learning to young audiences, teaching fundamentals such as counting, colours and greetings in a playful, engaging way.
Pierre’s contributions to the arts go far beyond his performances. He’s become an integral part of the Hermanus Pro Musica community choir, where he was appointed chairman in 2024. His career also spans wedding films, corporate videos and music productions, including work for prominent figures like Nelson Mandela’s granddaughter and notable South African musicians.
As a talented producer, Pierre works with the ATKV Applous choir competition, recording and broadcasting performances that are often aired on Multichoice platforms.
Pauli’s influence in the arts extends well beyond the stage. A gifted storyteller, she captivates audiences with a soulful voice that transforms each performance into an unforgettable experience. Her ability to weave emotion into every note leaves a lasting impression, making her shows much more than just concerts.
But Pauli’s talents don’t end with singing. As a master of ceremonies, she brings a commanding presence to any event, effortlessly engaging the audience and elevating the atmosphere. Her talents extend into writing and mentorship as well; early songwriting achievements include penning the hit “Tokkel jou Kitaar” for Carike Keuzenkamp. Additionally, her online platform, Gladdebekke, has empowered individuals to thrive on public speaking, with many going on to achieve national and international recognition.
For Pierre and Pauli their presence in Hermanus is more than just a personal journey; it is a celebration of the arts, community and the unyielding pursuit of beauty in every form.
