Caledon Cricket Club walked away as the champs of the Boland this past weekend.

The Cricket Boland 1st Division finals took place on 5 February in Swellendam when Caledon faced off against Bredasdorp. Both teams had an excellent season and were ranked as the top two teams in the Overberg, so it all boiled down to the finals.

Caledon won the toss and elected to field first.

Bredasdorp reached only 211 runs in 49.4 overs, this was due to the fact that Caledon did some outstanding field work. Marco Simons made 68 runs form Bredasdorp and was the team’s top scorer. Ryno Swarts kept Caledon’s dreams alive when he took three wickets for 32 runs in 10 overs

Caledon got off to a slow start and initially it seemed like Bredasdorp’s match but then Kirwan Williams pulled through with a magnificent 102 runs in 109 balls to clinch the game for Caledon in the 45th over of the game.

Cameron Engelbrecht was the top bowler for Bredasdorp when he took two wickets for 34 runs in his allotted 10 overs.
