“We took the evening to soak up, process and just bask in the happiness of the incredible accolade we received at yesterday’s Amorim Cap Classique Challenge.”
This was the message posted on Domaine Des Dieux’s Facebook page after its excellent achievements at the Cap Classique that was held on 22 September.
This boutique family-managed farm in the top of the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge has been recognised for its Cap Classique production since 2006. It is 28 ha in total, of which 20 ha are vineyards, predominantly pinot noir and chardonnay.
“The combination of these two cultivars and the natural acidity we achieve in the Walker Bay region are what make our Cap Classiques so unique and acclaimed,” says Megan Parnell of Domaine Des Dieux.
“This year, our 2016 Claudia Brut Cap Classique was awarded a trophy for the best Brut Cap Classique in the completion and then went on to win the Champions trophy for the best overall Cap Classique, an accolade we are immensely proud to have achieved three times in the last eight years, and the first time a wine farm has accomplished this in the Amorim Cap Classique Challenge.”
Domaine des Dieux’s 2015 Claudia Brut Cap Classique also received one of only five gold medals awarded in the Brut Category, and its Claudia 2009 RD (recent disgorgment) received one of only three gold medals awarded in the extended lees ageing category. “It was indeed an overwhelmingly happy and celebratory day for us at the 2022 Amorim Cap Classique challenge,” said Parnell.
Domaine des Dieux’s award winning Claudia Cap Classique, along with the rest of the range and its still wines can be tasted in its vineyard tasting room from Friday to Sunday, or during the week by appointment.
