The South African National Defence Force was out in full force in Gansbaai last week. Members of the SA Navy patrolled the coastline along with CapeNature and Overstrand Law Enforcement officials. They are part of a large deployment that has been stationed at various spots along the Overstrand’s coastline as part of Operation Corona, an anti-poaching measure, since late February. Soldiers also assisted Overstrand Law Enforcement and traffic officials at a vehicle check point (VCP). Officer commanding, Colonel Gaba Mahanjana emphasised the operation’s success should not be measured in arrests and confiscations, but in the number of poachers that are prevented from entering the sea and looting the marine resources.Photo: Bianca Du Plessis
