The Overberg Community Trust held its 20th annual general meeting at the Caledon Casino Hotel recently.
Everybody present agreed that it was lovely to be able to have a “real” meeting again, with trustees and members of the public present, as opposed to the previous year’s online meeting due to Covid restrictions.
As is usual with an AGM, matters pertaining to the previous year as well as the way forward were discussed. A representative of the auditors gave a detailed overview of the finances.
The trust financially assists many individuals and organisations through the allocation of bursaries for further studies at tertiary institutions and through donations to develop skills and to assist entrepreneurs.
This year 71 bursary applications were received, of which 27 applicants will receive financial assistance. Of the 37 donation applications of different organisations and individuals 12 applications were successful.
In her opening speech trustee member Eunice Theunissen said the chairperson, Rev Canon Patty Edwards, took the reins in a very difficult time and managed to keep the trust going.
The chairperson said the Overberg Community Trust has pledged to be an instrument of positive change and assistance within the Overberg region and strives to maintain this goal.
She concluded her speech with well-known quote by Mahatma Gandhi: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
