Overstrand Municipality compared its property rates with that of several other coastal towns. Compared to Knysna, George, Cape Agulhas and Saldanha Bay, the Overstrand property tax for 2023-’24 financial year is in fact lower than that of these other coastal towns.
This according to the Municipal Manager, Dean O’Neill. “Your property’s municipal value is the basis on which rates are calculated. For the rates comparison of residential properties the home valuation of R2 million was used.”
He said the properties listed in the Overberg on the new General Valuation Roll will carry the valuation assigned from 1 July 2023 to 2027. “Homeowners will find their property value, together with the rates tariff, rebates and the amount due for special rates areas (if applicable), at the top of your municipal rates account.
“Kindly note that the Valuation Appeal Board as appointed by the Provincial Minister of Local Government will shortly proceed with valuation appeal hearings.”
