The Hermanus Cricket Academy celebrates their first birthday. The academy has gone from strength to strength this last year.

Hermanus Cricket Academy is officially one year old.

The academy was founded in 2021 by Jared Wilson, a professional cricket player who was one of the top capped players to ever play at Hermanus High. He started the academy with a vision and mission to provide cricketers in the local community with affordable professional cricket coaching.

Wilson says he is excited to see how the academy has grown in a year.

“Here we are one year later. We have 40 plus players in Hermanus and over 40 players in both Bredasdorp and Caledon. Currently we cater for all genders, ages and abilities.”

He says growing up in Hermanus, where he played for both the first school team and the first club cricket team from Grade 8, was an honour, but he felt like he needed some extra one-on-one time and that it would have been beneficial to his career.

“Now having made it to a professional cricket career in Ireland and having a lot of one-on-one time with my coaches, I see it’s vital for player development. Being able to give the same standard of coaching to the community is humbling,” says Wilson.

He says the academy is ready to give an even bigger and better experience to the community in 2022.

“We are always looking for partnerships, sponsors and of course more cricketers. It’s more than just you and me, it’s for the children of the community and being a non profit organisation – all help is needed. Get in touch at info@hermanuscricketacademy.co.za.”
