Overstrand Municipality warns residents in the Kleinmond area to be wary of scammers sending WhatsApp messages regarding the disconnection of municipal services. Overstrand Municipal Manager Dean O’Neill said: “It has come to the municipality’s attention that residents in the Kleinmond area are receiving WhatsApp messages from the ‘Head of Disconnection’ regarding the disconnection of their municipal services. This is a scam. The municipality will not send any resident a WhatsApp message regarding their accounts. Do not reply to these messages and do not give access to your premises or house to anyone that cannot identify themselves as municipal officials. Please be alert, insist on identification or even better, rather tell the person to leave and contact the office during office hours. If they insist on entering, it would be safer to call the police. Please spread this message and help us to keep all our residents safe.”
