Misty Mountains Wine Estate on the R43 between Stanford and Hermanus has excelled at the 2022 Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards.
Its Estate Sauvignon Blanc and Pink Sauvignon Blanc received a double gold and the single vineyard sauvignon blanc a gold. Wine maker Neil Moorhouse and general manager Robert Davis are super proud of this amazing achievement.
The two Misty Mountains winners were among the record number of 1 650 wines. The Michelangelo awards differentiate themselves from other wine competitions by inviting predominantly international experts to judge the wines. The judging panel comprises British masters of wine, sommeliers, wine and spirits producers, educators and influential journalists from Europe, the Far East and the Americas.
The 2022 Estate Sauvignon Blanc is a rich, full bodied wine displaying aromas of gooseberry and kiwi fruit on the nose. Flavours of green tropical fruit and passion fruit on the palate lead to a fresh vibrant acidity ensuring a long and lengthy finish.
The 2022 Pink Sauvignon Blanc is made by adding a splash of Syrah to create a unique Rose styled wine. Medium-bodied with bright fruit on the nose, the wine shows aromas of guava, stone fruit and passion fruit, along with a vibrant fresh acidity on the palate.
Next year the Misty Mountains Wine Estate will enter its four crafted gins and 4-year-old crafted rum.
