Overstrand Law Enforcement Officials confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of half a million rand and arrested two suspects last week. Overstrand Deputy Mayor Lindile Ntsabo, the councillor responsible for Protection Services and Crime Prevention, reports that Overstrand’s Task Team and K9 officers stopped a car during a routine patrol near Honingklip on the R43 last Wednesday (30 March) when they discovered the huge amount of drugs hidden inside a plastic container in the boot of the car. The officers confiscated 5 456 Mandrax tablets worth an estimated R500 000 and the grey Huyndai car and arrested the two occupants of the vehicle. The confiscated goods and the suspects were handed over to Caledon police. Sergeant Tembi Gweyi, spokesperson for the Caledon police, confirmed two suspects, aged 31 and 35, were arrested. Both suspects appeared in the Caledon Magistrates’ Court on a charge of the possession of drugs.
