Gansbaai Police joined forces with Overstrand Law Enforcement and Overstrand Fire Department in an effort to ensure a safe and secure environment for visitors to Gansbaai and its residents. The operation was executed on Saturday 23 July. Lt Col Winston Coetzee, Gansbaai police commander, stated that special focus was on licensed liquor premises to ensure compliance in terms of liquor-licence regulations. While police and Law Enforcement officers were checking for under-age drinking and licence compliance, the Fire Chief checked whether the establishment was in compliance with fire-safety and population regulations. “Four non-compliance safety notices were issued,” said Coetzee. “At one of the licensed liquor premises a 42-year-old male was arrested after being found in possession of crystal meth, also known as ‘tik’. Another five suspects, aged 19, 21, 25, 31 and 52, were arrested at a drug outlet after Mandrax tablets were found on the premises. All six appeared on Monday 25 July in the Hermanus Magistrates’ Court on charges of possession of drugs.” Coetzee commended all stakeholders involved in the success of the operation.
