No doubt, by now you all know about the hand washing scenario, but this is the method I recommend.
When soaping your hands wash the tap as well. Then, when you rinse your hands also rinse the tap so it is properly clean, once you rinse your hands. If possible, close the tap with your wrist or elbow. The result is properly clean and uncontaminated hands. Also, only use automated paper dispensers to dry hands. Alternatively dry on a tissue or, if desperate, your clothes. If you need to open any doors, use the little finger on your opposite hand (non-writing one), your foot or your knee.
