The Hermanus Baboon Action Group (HBAG) is thrilled to announce some exciting changes that will shape the future of baboon management in the Hermanus East areas.

After eight years of tireless efforts advocating for the permanent implementation of a Baboon Management Program (BMP) in the areas of Voëlklip, Fernkloof and Estate, Hermanus Heights, and Kwaaiwater the time has come for a new chapter.

As part of this new phase, HBAG is introducing an updated committee structure designed to strengthen its impact and further the important work of baboon management in the region.

The new leadership team will be headed by Danie Folscher, who will serve as the chairperson. Bringing a wealth of experience and passion to the role, he will be assisted by a talented team, including Andrew White, Estelle Swanepoel, Jeanine McManus and Catherine McClune.

The new committee members are experts in key areas such as nature conservation, education, legal and financial matters, and, of course, the essential work of baboon management.

Their collective expertise ensures that HBAG will continue to make a significant contribution to addressing the challenges of human-baboon conflict in the Hermanus East areas.

The group remains committed to being an elected community representative on the Ward 3 Committee and will continue to advocate for baboon-affected communities. This renewed leadership is excited to work collaboratively with local residents, authorities and stakeholders to support the implementation and monitoring of the Baboon Management Programme.

For those who wish to get in touch with the team or learn more about HBAG’s work, the contact email remains info@hermanusbaboons.co.za. The team is eager to hear from the community and respond to any inquiries or concerns as they continue their important work for the future of baboon conservation and management.

As always, HBAG is committed to the responsible management of baboon populations, ensuring the well-being of both the animals and the communities they interact with.

With the support of the new leadership team, it looks forward to continuing this critical mission.. For further information, or to reach out to HBAG, please don’t hesitate to contact info@hermanusbaboons.co.za, and the team will respond as soon as possible.
