The N2 between Grabouw and Bot River had to be closed on Monday after a fatal crash close to the Hickory Shack turn-off. Authorities confirmed that three vehicles – a light delivery vehicle, a car and a truck – were involved. Captain Raldeen Atson, spokesperson for Grabouw Police, confirmed the bakkie had caught alight. “Two occupants of the truck and of the car sustained slight injuries,” she stated. Theewaterskloof Municipality’s Director of Community Services, Wilfred Solomons-Johannes, confirmed the occupant of the bakkie was unable to escape the burning vehicle and died. The cause of the accident is unknown. A case of culpable homicide has been registered. The area was closed for several hours and traffic diverted to the R44/Clarence Drive. Photos: Facebook
