She is well-known in the Overberg, and if you want something done then Rene Hartslief is there. She was recently nominated for the Woman in Media SA award, and she shares her story with Hermanus Times.

Tell us more about the nomination and how do you feel about it?

I was bowled over and pleasantly surprised when I received a call from Charlotte du Plessis, CEO of Woman of Stature Awards South Africa, on 5 November 2023, advising me that I had been nominated for the Woman in Media SA award. At first I was hesitant to accept the nomination as I had so much on my plate, but she encouraged me and insisted I was so deserving of it. I decided to go full-steam ahead and to give it my best shot attending all the workshops, and so on. It was an honour to be nominated and would be incredible to win Woman in Media South Africa, which is such a prestigious award. I will know the results after the adjudication when I attend the gala awards on 13 April.

Tell us more about what you plan for Hermanus/Overberg?

My dream is to make Hermanus one of the top destinations in the world . . . a place where unforgettable memories are made. It certainly is extraordinary and we have the best municipality in South Africa. I feel so blessed to be living here. I have recently launched A Service Excellence Rewards Programme: FOOD and MORE, which is a brilliant app with excellent benefits for the hospitality industry, tourism on a whole as well as all visitors to our beautiful region.

What do you love most about Hermanus?

Everything.

Tell us about the success of the long table idea?

The Long Table on the Pier (first in South Africa) was just absolutely superb in every aspect; everyone enjoyed it and will hopefully be back on 27 April (secret season with the best weather) when the Vikings take to the pier. The Long Table on a Vineyard was equally incredible, and everything was just perfect.

To whom do you look up and why?

Firstly I look up to God because He is my inspiration and secondly, I truly admire our mayor, Dr Annelie Rabie, as she definitely walks the talk.

What is your motto?

If you are not willing to risk the unusual you will have to settle for the ordinary.
