Yster Fouché, chair of the Hermanus Shore Angling Club, hands the prize for the biggest fish to Landré Botma.

The “Ampie se Dam” fishing competition, held over the weekend of 14-15 February, was a tremendous success, drawing anglers from across the region. The two-day event featured intense competition, complemented by ideal weather conditions.

Landré Botha claimed the prize for the largest fish of the event (1,380 kg), while Janco Kellerman took awards home for the largest bag of fish (2,9 kg) for the weekend as well as the second largest catch (1,35 kg). Kobus Vermeulen rounded the top three out with the third-largest fish of the competition.

The event organisers extended their “sincere gratitude” to the sponsors whose support made this competition possible.

“Their contributions were vital to ensuring the event ran smoothly and that participants had an enjoyable experience,” said the organisers.

The sponsors included KAD Construction, Creation Wines, Milk on the Beach, Buco Hermanus, Rademeyer Fishing, Overberg Steel and Irrigation, Paintsmiths, Walker Bay Plumbing, Lenvalco Readymix, Engen Hermanus Convenience Centre, Hermanus Toyota, Agrimark Hermanus, Char’d Grill and Wine Bar, Hi-Q Hermanus, Ok Minimark Onrus, Van Blommenstein Slaghuis and Boland Sports Worcester.

“We are deeply grateful for the continued support of our sponsors,” said Yster Fouché, chairman of the Hermanus Shore Angling Club.

“Their generosity enables us to host this event year after year, offering anglers the opportunity to showcase their skills and enjoy the camaraderie of the sport. Without their unwavering support, the success of this event would not have been possible.”

They also thanked Alda and Ampie Albertyn for generously allowing the use of their farm, Ampie se Dam, as the venue for this event.

“Their support plays an integral role in the competition’s success and is greatly appreciated,” Fouché added.

The organisers also expressed their appreciation to all participants for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship, which helped make the competition both exciting and memorable. A special word of thanks also went to the volunteers, whose dedication and hard work ensured the smooth execution of the event.

“We look forward to welcoming all participants back to Ampie se Dam next year for another exciting tournament,” the organisers remarked. “Until then, we wish everyone tight lines and successful fishing.”
