Teachers of Hermanus High School donned their sportiest outfits and comfiest tekkies for a unique fundraiser offering loads of fun.
The aim of the Teachers in Tekkies Relay fundraiser on Friday 4 September is to assist with covering the salaries of the School Governing Body staff whose jobs have been affected due to the unforeseen circumstances of Covid-19. The SGB teachers faced salary cuts as many parents struggle to pay school fees as their income has been affected by the corona virus pandemic.
According to Nanette Ras, marketing manager at the school, the day was a success thanks to the support of the community, learners and parents. A total of R120 055 was raised. FinGlobal was the main sponsor of the event and other local businesses such as Seeff Hermanus, ProActive Fitness, De Jagers just to name a few also joined in to sponsor the teachers. People also had the opportunity to sponsor any of the three teams namely the blue, white and green teams per lap.
What made the day more exciting was the Challenge a Teacher event where learners could task the teachers with various challenges such as running a lap backwards, pushing a trolley while doing a lap, playing air guitar and much more. Emile Pieterse, the sport conditioning coach at the school, won the 2020 Tekkies trophy for completing the most laps – a total of 82 laps covering a distance of 33km.
The blue team also walked away with the title of the winning team with 568 laps completed. Hermanus High School thanked every sponsor, parents and learner for their contributions, especially the main sponsor FinGlobal for supporting the cause
