If you are looking for a weekend getaway, a day trip to a
nearby town or an adrenaline adventure, then Gansbaai may just be the
destination for you. Gansbaai tourist businesses put their best foot forward
last week to welcome local media and social media influencers to spread the
word that Gansbaai is open!
This forms part of the “We are open” campaign recently
launched to encourage domestic travel and kickstart this important part of the
local economy.
The tour of Gansbaai on 1 September started at the tourism
office, where visitors were treated to a hot cup of coffee from the newly
established Raging Goose Coffee, situated opposite the Spar entrance.
The group then headed out to Pearly Beach and celebrated the Pearly Beach campsite’s 10th birthday. Fynbos Deck then treated visitors with freshly
baked snacks to enjoy with their beautiful view over the ocean, while a
presentation on Pearly Beach horse trails was given.
One of the highlights of the day was a visit to the African
Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary, where visitors met the local penguins being
treated at this facility and were given an overview of the work being done to
conserve this endangered penguin species.
At the Great White House, learners of Gansbaai Academia, who
take part in the Dyer Island Conservation Trust Environmental Education Group
(Deep), showed off their dance moves to the beat of Master KG’s “Jerusalema”,
and at the Gansbaai Harbour a snack platter with fish, calamari and chips was
served at Gansbaai Vismark, while the local geese showed up for a photo
opportunity. Ivanhoe Sea Safaris gave a presentation on how they are preparing
to open up and operate under Level-2 lockdown.
The Blue Goose restaurant dished up a mouth watering lunch
at its new premises in Hope Street, and coffee was served at Coffee on the
Rocks in De Kelders, where Overlandy Adventure Tours and Fatbike Tours
gave an overview of the adventures they have on offer.
