She loves what she’s doing and enjoys every moment of her sport.
Namika Pieterse, a Grade 3 pupil at Hermanus Primary School, is a student at Legacy Martial Arts Academy and practises Goju Ryu karate and kickboxing.
This 9-year-old karateka and kickboxer has been training for two years, now with a yellow belt in karate and red belt in kickboxing.
She competed in the regional kickboxing championships on 12 February and not only won both her fighting modes but also two gold medals.
She was crowned Overberg kickboxing champion.
Namika was selected for, and represented the Overberg Kickboxing team at the Western Cape Kickboxing Championship that was held in Retreat, Cape Town on 26 March.
Here she also won both her fighting modes and brought home two first place trophies.
She was selected for the Western Cape Kickboxing Team.
Namika represented the Western Cape Kickboxing Team at the South African Kickboxing Championships held in Mossel Bay from 12 to 15 May.
She obtained a second and a third place in her two fighting modes. Namika was selected for the National Presidential Kickboxing Team.
Namika then represented the South African Kickboxing Team at the African Continental Kickboxing Championship from 25 to 28 August. This event happens every four years. She dominated her final fight and won gold for South Africa.
Namika was crowned the African Continental Kickboxing Champion for children 7-9 years female u-30 kg.
She also represented the Overberg Goju Ryu karate team at the South African Goju Ryu Karate Championship held in Stellenbosch on 16 July. Namika won her kumite/fighting division and brought gold back to the region.
She was crowned South African Goju Ryu kumite champion.
At the Overberg Sport Awards Namika was nominated in the category School Sportswoman of the Year and crowned the Overberg School Sportswoman for 2022.
She was invited to the Western Cape Sport Awards on 17 September 2022 at the Old Mutual building in Cape Town. There she went up against the other district winners in that division.
Namika is a very hardworking and dedicated young lady who simply loves sport.
