A former matric pupil from Hermanus High School is asking the community to assist him in realising his dream of becoming a software engineer.

Caleb Riordan (18), who currently resides in Kleinmond with his family, placed second in his grade at his school with an average of 90,7 percent.

“I realised my final exam in matric was one of the most important of my life,” he said, “and I literally studied every single day without taking a break.”

Throughout his schooling he lived in Kleinmond, where he attended Kleinmond Primary School, before going to Hermanus High.

“Some people think high school teachers are mean and difficult to work with. They need to be tough to teach one to work on one’s own, to take responsibility, something that has to be different than it was at primary school.

“I decided to study software engineering at Eduvos Institute in Claremont [Cape Town], but unfortunately my family can’t afford to send me to complete my BSc in Information Technology, so I need to raise funds and decided to start a BackaBuddy page to ask people to help.”

Caleb loves to tackle complex mathematical problems, which forms part of software engineering.

He got 95% for maths in matric, 94% for physical science and 91% for information technology setting him up for his future career.

The funds will help Riordan to commence with his first year of tertiary studies at Eduvos. “The funds raised would be used towards tuition fees, study material, and accommodation in Cape Town (near Claremont).”

He thanks every teacher (primary school and high school) who supported him to reach his goals. He also wants to thank his parents for all their support and guidance.

“I can’t imagine going to any other school than Hermanus High School. They put the emphasis on spirit.”

Riordan is asking to public to support him by visiting his BackaBuddy page at: https://www.backabuddy.co.za/champion/project/caleb-riordan.

“Any contributions towards this cause will enable me to complete my degree and set me on a path to a fulfilled career in Information Technology,” concludes Riordan.
