Overstrand Municipality has announced that the period for public comment on the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) Policy has been extended to 15 November.

The EPWP is one of the government’s strategies to alleviate poverty through the creation of work opportunities using labour-intensive methods. All spheres of government and state-owned entities are expected to implement the programme.

Since its inception in April 2004 to 31 March this year, more than 13 million work opportunities have been created in the EPWP across all spheres of government.

The EPWP beneficiaries work on different projects such as Community Work Programmes (CWP), Early Childhood Development Programmes, Home Community-based Care Programmes, Extra School Support Programmes, Working on Fire (WoF), Working for Water, road maintenance projects and so on.

The written comments on the EPWP Policy must be submitted to epwppolicy@dpw.gov.za or epwppolicy1@dpw.gov.za

The policy is available on the departmental website www.publicworks.gov.za or www.epwp.gov.za.
