The effects of the national lockdown due to the current Covid-19 pandemic will have a far reaching impact on every community and here in Hermanus it is no different. While many households can stock-up and wait out the lockdown period, countless families are dependent on weekly and daily wages or donations that are no longer attainable. Many have lost all sources of income and will soon be unable to provide for themselves and their families.
The Overstrand Municipality Disaster Management, in partnership with Relief.life and the Red Cross, will be providing food parcels to these local families in greatest need.
Relief.life is the disaster management arm of Shofar Christian Church. A registered non-profit organisation established specifically to deal with disasters in local communities such as our own. In partnership with the Overstrand Municipality’s Disaster Management – Relief.life is currently one of the official relief organisation to receive donations in this regard.
A food parcel should sustain a family of four for a week and there are various ways to get involved. Whether you prefer to add items to your next grocery list or making a financial contribution, all food and financial donations received will contribute directly to getting these food parcels to the appropriate families.
The requested items can be delivered to Shofar Christian Church, Bosko Centre, Fairways Avenue, Eastcliff. Drop off times are Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 12:00. Simply drop the items on the steps of the building from where volunteers will collect and package the goods for distribution. Alternatively, items can also be dropped-off at designated super markets in allocated trollies.
