Hawston Cricket Club experienced a historic day in its history on Saturday 12 October when two teams were fielded for the first time.

Hawston recently competed in the Overberg First Division with a historic moment when they fielded a women’s player for the first time in the form of young Lara Marais who is currently playing at the Boland trials.

Hawston’s first team batted first and was in trouble at 122 runs for the loss of eight wickets when Darreu Jansen (97 runs) on debut and Myron Claasen (66 runs) saved the day in eventually scoring 298 runs. Other top scorers were Dawid Gerber (48 runs) and Byron May (45 runs) for the first team.

Hawston’s second team accounted very well of themselves and gave the first team a tough go. The best bowlers of the second team were Marius Hendriks (3 wickets for 25 runs in 9 overs) and Cameron Bailey (3 wickets for 29 runs in eight overs).

“Hawston Cricket Club would like to thank everyone for the support on Saturday 12 October and we hope to see many more supporters coming out. Please do follow us on our Facebook page as well,” said Llyle Tait.

On Saturday 19 October, Hawston’s first team played a home game against Botrivier and the second team had an away game against Caledon’s third team in Riviersonderend.
