Caledon’s Holy Trinity Anglican church, fondly known as “Die Klipkerkie” by everyone, celebrated its 174th anniversary recently.

The festivities started on 27 October, when Mr and Miss Holy Trinity were crowned. A festival was held at the Caledon Sports Grounds on 25 November, which included a show by the drum majorettes of Swartberg Primary School. A display of police dogs by the K9 Unit of Hermanus Police as well as a show by popular Ouma Sarie provided entertainment for old and young. The festivities concluded with a thanksgiving service led by Anglican Bishop Margaret Vertue on Sunday 26 November.

Rev Patty Edwards, Archdeacon of the Overberg, spoke to the Hermanus Times about some of the highlights of the festivities. “What stood out for me was the concert by members of the Oase Dienssentrum, where they showed what senior citizens can do and having fun whilst doing it.

“It was good to see people coming together on the day of the festival at the sports grounds, and Bishop Margaret’s message at the thanksgiving service on Sunday was a powerful one and summed it up perfectly when she said: ‘Don’t ask what the church can do for you, but rather ask what you can do for the church’.”
