Hermanus police have taken three suspects into custody this month in separate cases that showcase effective law enforcement and public-safety efforts.

“We are very thankful to our police, law enforcement and public-safety colleagues across Hermanus who helped in these arrests,” said Marius Boshoff, Hermanus branch manager for Fidelity ADT. “It shows that our town has a strong network of law enforcement and security role-players ready to come to your aid.”

In one of these incidents, on 13 July, a suspect was detained thanks to Hermanus Public Protection (HPP) officers who were able to locate a suspect wanted in connection with an alleged burglary at a house in Canterbury Street. The suspected stolen items were returned to the owner, and the suspect was detained.

“Earlier that same day, the HPP team spotted a suspect pushing a trolley in the early-morning hours. When officers stopped and searched him they found a dangerous weapon in his possession,” Boshoff reported.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident on 5 July, the HPP monitoring centre received an alert about a public fight between two homeless people. “One of the men was later located and taken into custody,” said Boshoff.

He added: “Please make contact with the HPP or with any of the law-enforcement and security partners who ensure the safety of residents of Hermanus. We are trained to deal with any type of suspect, and we are ready to come to your assistance.”

Hermanus Public Protection (HPP) is a non-profit company (NPC) established to provide public safety and top-up cleansing services in a geographically designated area of Hermanus.

It is funded by the ratepayers through the Overstrand Municipality Special Rating Area Bylaw and Policy. Visit https://hpp.org.za/ for more info.
