An imbizo was once again run by the justice, crime prevention and security cluster departments and their partners at the Zwelihle Primary School hall on 20 August as part of their Public Education Programme.

The event, attended by all the interested parties of safety and security, featured Deputy Mayor Lindile Ntsabo, who emphasised that young people of Zwelihle must take charge of their own future, and Major-General Brigadier Miso Shumani, Divisional Commander of Visible Police, who explained the purpose of the day to the visitors.

Shumani referred to the last imbizo, in February, when community members raised concerns about service delivery and other issues.

“One of these was the police station in Zwelihle that had been burnt to the ground in the 2018 riots,” she said. “We are committed to making an effort to assist the community and give feedback on what we have done so far.”

Shumani further explained that the security cluster wanted to use the programme as a platform to give feedback on what had been done since the February imbizo.

“We want to clarify the different roles of all the departments involved in this programme,” she said. “We are here for the community and you must feel free to knock on our doors for help.”

The district commander of the Overberg, Brigadier Donovan Heilbron, gave feedback to the stakeholders on commitments of the February imbizo, while CPF chairperson Trevor Hermanus and the chairperson of the National Youth Crime Prevention Committee, Silas Rataza, also gave their inputs.

The different cluster departments – Justice, NPA, Correctional Services, the Department of Social Development and the National Youth Development Agency, all shed light on their roles and responsibilities.
