Hermanus Public Protection (HPP), the managing body of the Hermanus Special Rating Area (HSRA), announced the expansion of its camera network with the approval of a new thermal camera with great excitement recently. This marks a significant step in HPP’s ongoing efforts to improve public safety and community monitoring.

Following a successful pilot project, the Board’s decision underscores HPP’s commitment to using innovative technology to enhance the well-being of the Hermanus community.

The new thermal camera, to be installed at a high site on Fernkloof Mountain, features advanced imaging capabilities, allowing for clear surveillance in low light and challenging conditions. This will improve HPP’s capacity to monitor public spaces, ensuring prompt responses to incidents and contributing to a safer environment for both residents and visitors. HPP’s investment demonstrates its dedication to staying ahead of challenges and creating a vibrant environment for everyone.

The thermal camera is set to be operational in early 2025, playing a key role in creating a safe environment. “We’re thrilled to introduce this new tool, which will help us serve the Hermanus community better,” said Jerry van Niekerk, HPP Chairperson.
