Jimmy Bonjesi, the star of Hermanus and runner for the Nedbank Running Club, did it again.

The Malawian is the winner of the first Walker Bay Outdoor’s half marathon. He finished this race in 43:37.

This humble athlete came to Hermanus eight years ago and started running in 2015, when his employers, the Kuiper’s, registered him for the Walker Bay Cliff Path Run of 12,2 km. “I came first and from there they encouraged me to join a running club – I joined the Whalers Athletics Club,” he said. “Since I joined the Whalers I managed to win several races like the Total Whale Half Marathon and The Cash Cow 10 km.”

Bonjesi then tried to compete in full marathons and his endurance paid off and he won the Hemel-en-Aarde Marathon.

“My ambition is to inspire and train the young athletes in the community so that they can stay away from bad habits,” he said. “I also would like to thank the Burman’s for the great sponsorship and support they always give me.”
