The MKKK will officially launch at 20:00 on Friday 31 October with award-winning playwright Mike van Graan’s political satire My Fellow South Africans, featuring Kim Blanché Adonis.

Kleinmond is preparing to host its first-ever Mthimkhulu Kleinmond Kleine Kunstefees (MKKK), a three-day cultural celebration running from Friday 31 October to Sunday 2 November.

The inaugural festival promises to deliver more than entertainment, positioning itself as a catalyst for social change through creative expression in the Overstrand region. “The festival comes to Kleinmond at a time of resurgence in cultural expression through the work of the Kleinmond Arts & Culture Hub,” said Joan Daries, manager of Mthimkhulu Community Development.

The MKKK will officially launch at 20:00 on Friday with award-winning playwright Mike van Graan’s political satire My Fellow South Africans, featuring Kim Blanché Adonis. The sharp-witted production will be staged at The Shed in Kleinmond Harbour, setting the tone for a weekend of meaningful artistic engagement.

Acclaimed writer Frank Mein-tjies highlighted the festival’s significance: “It offers an exciting opportunity to taste and engage with creativity first-hand. It is also a welcome boost to the sterling efforts of social and cultural organisations in Kleinmond.

“Festival goers will engage with an exceptional roster of South African talent, including celebrated poet and activist Diana Ferrus, cultural activist Frank Meintjies, retired police major-general and author Jeremy Vearey, writer Toni Stuart, Slam Jam champion Vusumuzi Mpofu and acclaimed storyteller Winslow Schalkwyk. The MKKK emphasises inclusivity with activities spanning all generations.

Writing and art workshops led by featured artists will engage children and youth, while multiple art exhibitions across the festival precinct will showcase local and regional talent, including Wellington-based artist Nadia Albertus. A highlight weekend event includes a sunset picnic on Mthimkhulu’s lawns, creating opportunities for community connection and cultural exchange.

Beyond entertainment, the festival aims to generate positive social change within Kleinmond by supporting local organisations and creating shared cultural experiences that strengthen community bonds.

Tickets are available online via Quicket or at Mthimkhulu and Child Welfare offices in Kleinmond. For information contact Chris Ferndale (Cape Cultural Collective) at 084 721 5438 or Joan Darries at joan@grailprogrammes.org.za
