Archers from as young as 10 years old went on an overnight camp at Karwyderskraal Farm with a “medieval shoot-out” for parents and spectators. It was such an eventful two days that the archers are still talking about it. They had to be students of the Traditional Barebow Club, where they learnt more advanced techniques and also to make their own arrows and quivers. An evening was spent around the fire learning about the 400-year-old sport and the warfare of traditional archery, one student at a time holding a “talking stick”. The medieval demo was the highlight and everyone felt as if they were warriors. “A ‘Wild Bird Traditional Archery experience’ is something everyone should do at least once,” said the organiser, Sandra Viljoen.
