DR Sports has announced its upcoming athletics training camp to be held on 9-10 October at Curro Hermanus.
This two-day event will bring together some of South Africa’s leading athletes and coaches for a camp unlike anything the Overberg region has hosted before. The camp is limited to 100 primary and high school athletes and will provide specialised coaching across all track and field disciplines. Each discipline will be led by a specialist coach with proven national or international experience, supported by additional assistant coaches to ensure that every athlete and every item receives focused attention.
This is more than just a training camp. Every athlete will receive a certificate of participation, compete for prizes awarded to the top-performing athletes and will also receive a guided two-month training programme to help them maintain and build on their progress after the camp.
The world-class coaching line-up includes:
• Henricho Bruintjies: Olympic sprinter, Commonwealth Games silver medalist and one of South Africa’s fastest men (100 m in 9.97 seconds).
• Duwayne Boer: Long- and triple jump specialist.
• Chad Herman: National javelin champion.
• Darren de Bruyn: u-20 African championships bronze medalist sprinter.
Additional support coaches will be added to the roster. Speaking about the initiative, Hernricho Bruintjies said: “This camp is unique, not only because of the level of expertise athletes will have access to, but because it is designed to enrich lives. Every athlete will leave with new skills, a structured training programme and the confidence to improve long after the camp. Nothing like this has ever been hosted in the Overberg. It is the start of something that will inspire athletes and uplift communities at the same time.”
The entry fee of R1 300 per learner includes lunch on both days. Entries are limited to 100 learners. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Swartberg Primary School in Caledon, reinforcing DR Sport’s mission to uplift both athletes and the communities that support them.
The organisers view this camp as a first step in a long-term vision: combining elite level athletic development with tangible community impact. To book, or for additional information, contact: drsportptyltd@gmail.com or Darren de Bruin on 060 506 5427.
