Legacy Martial Arts Academy in Hermanus has once again excelled at the annual Overberg District Sport Council Sport Awards hosted by the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, bagging seven awards.

These annual awards highlight the achievements and performances of all sport administrators, technical officials, coaches, referees, umpires, athletes, sportsmen and sportswomen, and gives recognition to all the sport federations in the district.
Shihan Ruehan van Romburgh of Legacy Martial Arts Academy (LMAA), who is also the President of Overberg Kickboxing Association, said the awards were the perfect rewards for all their hard work and dedication.
LMAA was named the Recreational Body of the Year while the Overberg Kickboxing Association was the winner of the Federation of the Year award.
Van Romburgh, who won the Coach of the Year award for the second consecutive year, is extremely proud of his student Chélene Kreusch, who was honoured with the President’s Acknowledgement Award for her kickboxing achievements as well as his other students who were crowned the winners in various categories.
Namika Pieterse, who represented South Africa at the African Kickboxing Championships in 2022, was once again crowned the School Sportswoman of the Year at the Overberg District Sports Awards.
She won this title in 2022 for the first time.
Kayden Pool won the Newcomer of the Year title, Dylan Isaacs the Junior Sportsman of the Year category and Gareth Cupido the Senior Sportsman of the Year title.
Kayden was nominated in three different categories – the Newcomer of the Year category as well as the Junior Sportsman and School Sportsman of the Year categories
Zius Brand was nominated in the Newcomer of the Year category while Dylan Isaacs and Aidan Brummer were finalists in the School and Junior Sportsman of the Year Categories. Brummer won the Newcomer of the Year as well as the School Sportsman of the Year awards in 2022.
Devine January and Gareth Cupido were shortlisted in the Senior Sportsman of the Year category and Zanru Fraser in the Senior Sportswoman of the Year category.
The winners are invited to the Western Cape Provincial Sports Awards that will take place in Cape Town on 21 October.
