Hermanus police have taken a suspect into custody on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol after he reportedly drove into a road sign in the CBD just before 23:00 on 25 February.
Marius Boshoff, Hermanus branch manager for Fidelity ADT, reported a public-safety officer from Hermanus Public Protection happened to be on patrol and saw the accident take place. HPP is operated by Fidelity ADT.
“Our officer was able to take the vehicle’s details down and reported to our monitoring centre what had happened,” Boshoff said. “A colleague heard a radio report of the incident and reported he saw the vehicle in question at a filling station in Eastcliff. It was also reported that the driver appeared not to be fit to drive a vehicle.
“Hermanus police soon arrived at the filling station, where they took the driver into custody on a charge of drunken driving. The damaged road sign was also reported to municipal officials.”
In a separate incident, on 15 February, a suspect was apprehended on a charge of shoplifting and being in possession of stolen property.
“We were informed a clothing store in the CBD had several items stolen by a shoplifter,” said Boshoff. “The shop owner was not able to provide an immediate description of the suspect, but a radio report was broadcast to security officers and patrollers in the area.”
One of Fidelity ADT’s area managers reported seeing an unknown person acting suspiciously in the vicinity. It appeared the person had several items on him he was visibly trying to hide.
“HPP public-safety officers soon located this person and searched him,” Boshoff stated. “The items discovered on him were later positively identified by the shop owner as those stolen from his store. Well done to everyone involved in this arrest and for your teamwork in keeping Hermanus safe.”
