Blue Drop Report confirms the Overstrand water supply is of good quality and safe to drink.
The Blue Drop Progress Report was recently released by the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), the first report since 2014. A total of 1 186 drinking water supply systems were evaluated in 144 municipalities. The period under review was 1 July 2020-30 June 2021.
A formula was used to calculate a total Blue Drop Risk Rating (BDRR) for each water supply system. A BDRR below 50% is categorised as low risk, while a BDRR of 50% to 70% is a medium risk, 70% to 90% high risk, and more than 90% a critical risk. All eight Overstrand Municipality water supply systems were in the low-risk category, and five had among the 20 lowest-risk ratings in the country.
Baardskeerdersbos with a BDRR of 12,8% has the fourth lowest risk rating in the country.
