At 90 years old the late Chris Mostert still led a busy life, working as an accountant and driving around to see clients.
On Tuesday 26 July, Mostert was on his way to see a client when he lost control of his vehicle and was involved in a fatal accident.
Warrant Officer Jakobus Marthinus, spokesperson for the Bredasdorp police, confirmed no other vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred at approximately 15:30 on the road between Bredasdorp and Swellendam.
“It is believed the 90-year-old man, travelling in a white Chevrolet bakkie, hit the gravel and lost control of the vehicle, which then overturned,” he said. “When the police and paramedics arrived at the scene he had already passed away.
“A case of culpable homicide is being investigated and a post-mortem has been done.”
Letty-Ann Möller, Mostert’s stepdaughter, describes him as a big-hearted, generous and “God fearing” gentleman who loved singing. “He never had children of his own, but treated us as his own. He was always the first to contact all the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren on our birthdays.”
