The Overberg District Municipality’s Health
Department gave the Hermanus Country Market the go-ahead to trade but under
strict conditions.

Liza van Coppenhagen, organiser of the
Hermanus Country Market, confirms that strict measures have been put in place
to curb the spread of Covid-19 during their market. “We will make sure
that no more than 100 people be present on the market site. This will be done
by reducing traders to a maximum of 30 people, these traders will
be spread out to minimise interaction.

“The new walk through market can only
accommodate 60 customers at any given time,” says Coppenhagen.

This walk-through market
will have no seating available and customers will only be able to walk through the
market. She explains that if people wish to stay and chat to one another, they
are welcome to do so on the cricket field or in other open areas. There will be
no music or any other form of entertainment because this could encourage
customers to stay longer on site.

“Customers will not be allowed to eat food,
only take-aways are available in appropriate packaging. We would be enormously
grateful for your support, not just to purchase from our local traders, but
also to spread the word that the market is open albeit in a limited capacity,”
she ads.

Coppenhagen also urged people to come and support
the traders. “In these tough economical times the traders rely heavy on their
customers,” says Liza.
