The 10th Biggest Deal Plus Awards Ceremony was held in the Caledon Town Hall on Thursday 20 June.

This competition for young entrepreneurs is a Theewaterskloof Municipality initiative in collaboration with the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda), Standard Bank and the Klipheuwel Wind Farm (Globeleq).

This programme, which promotes and encourages entrepreneurship among local youth, was established in 2014. Since 2020 the focus has been on unemployed youth. During the six weeks’ training the young entrepreneurs receive invaluable advice on all aspects of running a business which ranges from putting together a business plan to financial and marketing training.

The participants compete in the New Business Category and Existing Business Category with three winners in each category.

Prizes to the value of R35 000 for winners, R25 000 for runner-ups and R15 000 for third places (in both categories) are sponsored by Standard Bank and are in the form of business equipment or resources.

All the winners will also receive accredited skills development training of their choice in the sector / industry they are working in. The total value of this is R400 000 and is sponsored by Klipheuwel Wind Farm (Globeleq).

The winners in the different categories are:. New Business: Mitch Magerman (25) from Caledon (exotic steelworks); Burtley Botha (30) from Villiersdorp (photography and video services) and Zweli Mgobozi (30) from Grabouw (cleaning rivers and water channels).. Existing Business: Hananja du Toit (26) from Villiersdorp (poultry); Brucewin Carelse (28) from Myddleton (barber shop) and Dylan Gidlan (22) from Grabouw (food trailer).
