Sportsmen and women from across the Overberg were honoured for their achievements during a gala event.

Those who work behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly, including administrators and volunteers as well as members of the media who give the sport stars well-deserved and much needed publicity, received recognition for their contributions at the Overberg Sport Awards ceremony.

Ruehan van Romburg, sensei with Legacy Martial Arts Academy in Hermanus, walked away with the title as Sportsman of the Year, while Birgit Schmidt is Sportswoman of the Year. Van Romburgh also won the Coach of the Year title.

Aidan Brummer of Legacy Martial Arts Academy won both the Newcomer of the Year and School Sportsman of the Year titles, while Namika Pietersen, also from the Legacy Martial Arts, won the School Sportswoman of the Year award.

Overberg Kickboxing Federation walked away with the Federation of the Year award, while Sxolies Aerobics and Fitness Club is the Overberg’s Recreation Body of the Year.

Overberg Jukskei A1 Team is the Team of the Year, Generation Schools Hermanus chess team is the School Team of the Year, while Lukhanyo Primary’s team is the Developing School of the Year and the Intonga Team the Indigenous Games Team of the Year.

Franklin Cupido won the Sportsman of the Year with a Disability award, Mignon van Zyl was appointed Junior Sportswoman of the Year and Elxzandre Syster the Junior Sportsman of the Year.

Other winners are Samara Maleke (Sport Administrator of the Year), Conroy Williams (Volunteer of the Year), Marion February (Recognition of Technical Excellence) and André Arends (Photographer).
