Overstrand Executive Mayor Dr Annelie Rabie has extended an invitation on behalf of the Outeniqua Chair Challenge race director, and called on athletes in wheelchairs to participate in George on 15 October.
Entries are open with a choice of four distances – the marathon distance of 42,2 km, half-marathon of 21,1 km, 10 km as well as a 5 km fun ride, which is suitable for all people in wheelchairs.
Rabie said: “It is encouraging to note that as sporting events are opening up there are also options for people with disabilities to participate.”
The Outeniqua Chair Challenge event was endorsed by the Premier in 2019. “It is hoped much support will be given to this challenge, which goes beyond a sporting event and raises awareness for trials of people in wheelchairs and seeks to integrate society,” Rabie said.
