It was a festive atmosphere that prevailed in Hermanus on 30 November when shoppers flocked to the Whale Coast Mall for the launch of Phase 2.

“The date 30 November marked an extremely special day at Whale Coast Mall,” the mall said on its Facebook page. “Not only did we officially welcome nine brand new tenants to the Whale Coast Mall family, but the mall also celebrated it’s 6th birthday.”

The festive event was marked by the local radio station Caledon FM broad-casting live from the mall on 29 and 30 November.

According to the developers it was a dream-come-true after they had to overcome challenges to complete Phase 2 in time. “We are happy that everything went smoothly,” Ettiene Eygenberger from Dorpstraat Properties said, “despite challenges such as the extreme weather conditions in September and the ongoing load shedding.” He also thanked all the role players for their contribution especially the Overstrand Municipality and the construction team.

During the ribbon cutting well-known comedian and Hermanus resident Barry Hilton interrupted the ceremony on his way to explore the new tenants, and said Hermanus was the best place to be in, “the only place to live, my cousins, with the best mall.”
