Residents of Pringle Bay are urged to only drop their waste off at the drop-off points during operational hours.

Overstrand Municipality appeals to residents of Pringle Bay to drop waste off at the mini drop-off centre during operating hours to minimise random animal access to disposed waste.

This comes after a video showing black plastic bags left outside the mini drop-off centre after hours was posted on social media last week.

“Overstrand Municipality kindly reminds residents that bags should not be left outside the facility,” said municipal manager Dean O’Neill. “The drop-off is open daily from 08:00 to 16:00, including public holidays, so please plan to dispose of waste during these hours.”

He added that the municipality’s solid-waste team services (empties) the drop-off facility twice a day, in the morning and late afternoon.

“In addition to our day-shift employees, the Baboon Monitors will also assist with monitoring at the drop-off before and after their shift to keep the baboons away from the waste, should any be in the area.

“Currently, the drop-off is receiving a lot of after-hour deliveries from residents and businesses in the area. If at all possible, please adjust your operating style to deliver waste and/or recyclable materials during operating hours so that our staff members can better manage the waste and minimise the potential for animals to access the disposed waste.”

O’Neill announced that after consultation with the Mayor, a decision was made to finance the upgrade and animal-proofing of the Pringle Bay mini drop-off with municipal funds. He added: “As such, it has been added to the draft CAPEX budget for the new financial year (2025/26).”Residents of the Hangklip-Kleinmond can dispose of their household waste at the following drop-off points:
